"BUCK" Leather Knife Roll

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

"BUCK" Leather Knife Roll

Post by kootenay joe »

I have just the finest leather knife roll imaginable. The leather is thick yet very supple and the elastic straps are 'heavily' stitched to make the 47 slots.
Measures 27" x 13". Underneath the thick leather handle is "BUCK/Knives" & the Buck Idaho logo (i think this is correct ?).
I would like to know the 'story' behind such a fine example of leather work for knife storage. Did the roll come with any special knives in it ? or was it to commemorate something ? or ??
And were these made in the same leather shop that makes Buck sheaths ?
I got this one on ebay some years back but did not think to ask the seller how he came to have it.
Any info will be appreciated.
thanks, kj

Roland I can't tell you a thing about your knife roll other than it made me drool a little on my keyboard. ::drool:: ::tu::

Yes Phil. It is of much finer leather than is needed to make a perfectly fine knife roll and the heavy double stitching throughout shows excellent workmanship. It must have been celebrating something 'over-the-top' special going on in Post Falls, Idaho !

Other than the fact that "you're not supposed to store a knife in a leather sheath", I'd really rather have a roll like this than the Sack-Ups I normally use. At least Sack-Ups can be bought locally, and have a rust preventative in them.

I have owned this for at least about 7 years, maybe longer, time goes faster than i do. I kept my custom folders (about 20) in this leather knife roll and never noticed any ill effects. I have sold most of my customs which is why it is now empty. Maybe this leather has been treated to prevent dampness from taking hold ?

As has been stated - cool! I’ve been interested in Buck Knives and Buck stuff for years - never seen one before, couldn’t be many of them around. OH
Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Hello Blade Man ! Welcome to AAPK. You made your first post here. And yes, Buck did reply that this was made for a salesman to use.
I hope you stick around and share what you know with us.
