What you're seeing is called a "swedge". The Buck guys would need to back me up here but I'm going to guess that since it has a "swedge" and no date code, the knife is one of the older 303's.
If I'm going into too much detail on something you already know, please don't be offended. I don't know you so I don't know what you know and what you don't know.
This is a newer Buck 303 with no swedge on the main blade.
