Cheaper whittling blocks

In an earlier posting, I asked about finding a source to buy 2x2x2" whittling blocks.

A couple of people kindly supplied some sources. I appreciate those leads, but those places charge retail prices.

I make about 2,000 wood blocks with flowers carved on top of them a year. I give these away to nursing homes and churches. So, I must get a wholesale price to be able to do this. My former source has retired. He was charging me about .45 cents each. The prices that I saw on the leads provided in the earlier post would have been well over $1 each. I can't afford to pay this.

I found one place on eBay that sent me 100 pieces of what he said was basswood and charged about .56 cents. The price was OK, but the wood is too hard to carve. I do not think it is basswood.

Anyway, I am still looking for a supplier if anyone knows of one.

Thank you, Bryan

Don't know if this helps but you can have a look. If you can't find blocks at the prices you need, you may have to cut down on the amount you make. In the end, it all comes down to dollars and cents. http://www.nationalbalsa.com/Basswood_s/43.htm

Bryan, if I may, I would recommend a visit to your local lumber yard (think Cedar posts) and the purchase of a table saw.
I admire your charity.
