Those look really good. I'd like to start whittling/carving one day, but I'd probably wind up with an unidentifiable object and a dull knife. Might you have tutorials available, or perhaps suggest a good one or three?

Thanks. U tube is a great source. Look up Doug Linker, Gene Messer, Jack Loring Carves, I'd suggest you get a cut proof glove and a leather strop to keep your blade sharp. There's a number of carving clubs in Michigan that would be a great help to you.
If you're going to try to carve with a pocket knife, most Carver's will advise against using a pocket knife and advise you to get a fixed bench knife like a Flexcut brand or Occt brand, you will need to rework most all pocket knife edge to a thinner convex edge to make it a good carver. Most carving is done with a warnclife or sheepsfoot style blade or custom self made grind. Learn to make controlled cuts to minimize the chance of cutting yourself. Push cuts, stop cuts and paring cuts and v cuts. If I can be of any more help let me know. I don't how close you live to me but I could show you a few things if you're not to far away. I live close to Charlotte Mi.

Re: Wood carving projects
I was surprised to find this little gem this week.
I carved this at Summer Camp when I was in Boy Scouts - around 40 years ago! It was a kit I bought at the Camp Trading Post, a square block of wood with a hole through it (for your Scout neckerchief), and a carving guide printed on it.
Lots of fun!

Re: Wood carving projects
My latest project finished. First time with butternut wood, chips a little more than bass wood but the beautiful grain is worth it.
Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks, I will post some of my other projects if there is interest. I know this isn’t a carving site, but wood and knives go hand and hand.
Re: Wood carving projects
There are quite a few whittlers and carvers around here. Some, like yourself, are quite skilled. Please do share more of your work.
Re: Wood carving projects
Here are a few of the ones from this year. All theses are bass wood and acrylic paint. I will post a few more later.

Another good one.
Re: Wood carving projects
My brother is a welder so I made him a present for his birthday in December. There were no patterns so I had to draw it all up and saw it out, the just use my imagination since there was no go by to reference.
Re: Wood carving projects
I bet he liked it.
