Re: Wood carving projects
Will do. Thx.C-WADE7 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 1:22 amScott your trees inspired me today. It was a slow day at work and I had a cedar shingle so I cut me out a tree and shaved it down some and cut some lines in for texture. After getting home I used the burner(on low setting so it doesn’t darken just makes light lines)to add more texture and gave it some watered down paint.
Scott,
If you will take a knife and taper the edges down on the top legs of the triangle sections it will change the looks a lot. Take a look at the unpainted one and see if you get what I’m trying to explain. Doug and I will have you a full fledged member of the spittin’ and whittling’ club in no time. Keep up the good work!

Re: Wood carving projects
Been busy with harvest but getting in a little bit of carving here and there. Good stuff guys. Here's the latest two carvings all done with my Case seahorse whittler. I added in the picture my first Case saddle horn also.
Re: Wood carving projects
Great work and knives Doug.
Re: Wood carving projects
Nice ones Doug! I like the little saddle horn but opted to find myself the old large saddle horn pattern, just have to have the big butter spreader looking blade. I made a different take of your Santa last year at Christmas.the little one is on 1x1 square wood the large is about 7/16” thick but both sides are carved.
Re: Wood carving projects
Both excellent C-W.

Re: Wood carving projects
Thanks guys. C-WADE7 I like those. I'll have to try a couple. I didn't realize there were 2 sizes of the saddle horn pattern? I usually tend to buy the larger patterns.C-WADE7 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 2:13 am Nice ones Doug! Re: Wood carving projects
Haven’t had any big projects lately, so I’ve been piddling with scrap wood and my GEC pocket carver.

Is that Jay Leno, I hate he got burned but your carving looks like him…must be the chin

Re: Wood carving projects
Wasn’t made to be but has a bit of the look that looks as bad with his burns and I haven’t seen any legit post of how bad it was but as quite as they’ve kept it I’m afraid it may be worse than we think.
This next pic was a caricature I did that was based off a “go by” carving someone else did. He’s got a CHIN!!(though I feel he has an almost Obama look, not really my “style”).
Re: Wood carving projects
Super work.
Re: Wood carving projects
Got another couple ornaments done this week. Carved out of a Rose of Sharon branch.
