Cool! An Ochsenkopf! Oldest Axt makers in Germany. Or that's what they say.

I got all the stuff here to put my small Ochsenkopf back together. Handle and paint. Just haven't taken the time to do it yet.

Yesterday's Tractor club swap meet. Found a new ESTWING hatchet Sportsman's axe E24A stacked leather $20.00
24 oz. with the NO.16 Black Ballistic nylon Sheath, which I do not find online, usually leather.
of particular interest was a seller with some sweet Marbles knives and and antique axes. Best one was if I recall, a number 53? priced at $500. and a few others $250 and up. A couple of other sellers with Marbles.

I also see that Estwing has the black special edition sports man's axe, other than the color is there anything special about them?

Sounds like a great find! I have several Estwing axes and if I find one at the "right price" I always pick it up. I can always trade it off to a friend or a member of the local informal knife trading club.

Here is some more info, on the steel that the Estwing is made of that I found. If the axe is made of 1055 carbon steel, then the black coating will help prevent rust.

Answer:If the company says it's 1055, as a previous customer indicated, I wouldn't doubt it. I've owned this axe for a while now and find it to be of excellent quality. 1055 is a durable carbon steel that is excellent at withstanding shock.

Not my picture but I do own one. Seems to rust easily and found the pointed tip a bit soft for chopping ice to stop rain and melting snow coming into my barn but it worked. Depeeka war hammer, for medieval enactment.

Very nice!!! I have found I am constantly fighting rust on some of my pieces. I have tried motor oil, bacon grease, olive oil, mineral oil etc...etc... after time... rust sets in...

As I stated in my last post, I have found that I am constantly fighting rust on some of my pieces. I have tried about everything and the cheapest rust protection for a "Large-Volume" of items seems to be used motor oil. It is free and lots of it is around and makes for easy dunking. I just pulled out some ax heads last night to find rust was creeping back again or was about to due to high humidity overnight

So it was time for a dunking action...

Nice! If I recall correctly, Bridgeport also made a number of official BSA hatchets. I had the '60s BSA manual (found in "free" bin at the local library) in addition to my own (then current for 2007-10) manual; and in it were my first exposure to the Imperial Scout Knife, Western BSA Sheath knife, and of course, the Bridgeport.

I carried just some el-cheapo; store brand "MADE IN INDIA"

You are correct, as I recall I have had a couple of Bridgeport official BSA hatchets in the past. I like the solid construction of the handle and head being one piece.
