A new carving set...........

Post by knife7knut »

Although I don't actively collect kitchen knives/carving sets they seem to follow me home on occasion. This latest set I found at a garage sale across the street from an estate sale yesterday.
Made by Sheltenham in England it is a three piece set(knife;fork;and sharpening steel) in it's original box and shows very little use. The faux pearl handles are excellent except for the steel which is showing a small amount of shrinkage near the front. Strangely enough the fake pearl is pretty real looking than most I've seen. The price was right too: $3.

Certainly worth even more as a user at that price. Good pick up!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Nice set.
Back in the day when people expected or took for granted that there would be a knife steel in the carving set.
And probably knew what it was for and how to use it. They knew the importance of it.
That one little important bit of skill and knowledge vanished, probably somewhere between Perry Como and Patsy Cline.
