Help with ID of aluminum handled knife

Post by muskrat man »

This has a semi obliterated etched marking which I can only partially read. It is very hard steel, and takes a screaming edge.

From what I can tell the etch reads:

"NEW --- MFG Co. (NEW ERA MFG Co?))
-emco (NEMCO?)
(inside center banner) GUARAUNTEED
Brand
Chicago USA

I can't find any marking in goins or online that link up, or photos of similar knives. As close as I can find are rada and richtig.

What say you?

Not sure this is it, but I found this ad from POPULAR MECHANICS MAGAZINE dated August 1922.

Nice find Caleb! Around the turn of the twentieth century it was very fashionable to have knives with aluminum handles.Prior to that they were more expensive than gold supposedly due to the difficult in mining bauxite(the ore that aluminum is made from).I have a couple aluminum handled kitchen knives with aluminum handles one of which is marked:"made from pure aluminum".

Thanks men. Well it looks like new era mfg co existed and manufactured aluminum handle knives. Wish I could find more info about the company!
