In June of 1986 my new wife and I went on a honeymoon which was largely camping out of my pickup. We bought some cans of SPAM because we thought it would be easier to use than bacon. We were not really familiar with it. Well, we had some uh... 'meals'... of it, but, now, 32 years later, we have not had it again. However, I did find this authentic recipe to share, which I have not tried. Meanwhile, I did visit the SPAM museum in Austin, Minnesota some years ago, which was really quite interesting. There was a thirty foot high pyramid of spam cans, a hundred other oddball items and ephemera, including an original letter from General Eisenhower from Europe during the Battle of the Bulge, thanking Hormel for their free tons of SPAM sent overseas to very hungry troops, who were literally living through hell on earth. SPAM is some pretty rough stuff, but worth a try every few decades, preferably fried. No high-blood-pressure clients need apply. It has some cousins, you know-- Vienna sausage, or 'Li'l Boy Peters.
