Help Me Identify This Bladesmith Please!

Post by SteveThePirate »

Well I guess I'm going to try this again, because apparently using any kind of external links counts as "illegal or pirated software"...

I'm trying to identify the bladesmith who made a very unique knife that my father passed down to us. The marking on the blade simply says RLK AERCHER with a small cross below it. It was probably purchased in the mid to late 2000s at a gun and knife show, in the Dayton, Ohio region. The sheath has the same makers mark, and is also hand made. Our dad passed away about 10 years ago, and I'd like to know more about who made it, and if I could obtain a sister blade.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you are a newly registered member making your first post, it's a pretty sure bet that attaching an outside link will get you the boot. Way too many times someone will join up and then start posting spam links to who knows what. In your case, you seem to be on a legitimate quest for information, so I wish you well in your search.

There are so many knife makers around the country that do it as a hobby because they enjoy it. Unless he is in the knife makers guild you may never find anything out about who made it. A lot of makers probably just sell locally in their area. It will be a good family keepsake for sure.

Amazing! How did you find this? Is he still active? I'd love to get another of his blades!

Check the custom knifemakers listed in Levine’s Guide.

As you know his last name, just check that section.

If he’s listed, there will be contact info, but only as it was current at the time f publication.

I would do it, but my copy is inaccessible.

I had not even realized that Levine's book (4th) had such a list!
I looked and do not see this knife maker listed, either under RLK or Aercher.
That was a great suggestion though. Bookmarking that section...
