Is this a special edition? Black Blade Case? v5318

Post by Johnman »

Hello, I cant find anything like this. I looked at all the photos I could find of V5318 and Case knives with black blades, and nothing.

I’m pretty sure it’s authentic. Shepherd Hills offers knives like this from time to time. They are usually SFO’s and only they have them.

Here are several I have acquired over the past 10 years. I believe they were made around 2009 & 2010. Not sure how many different patterns were made, but I have the 7 pictured below and have also seen a copperlock and canoe pattern. I have heard them referred to as Case anthracite and/or Case PVD coated blades. You can find a few on eBay or do a google search using these keywords.

Nice collection, they look great lined up like that. I would use that as a screen saver.

Thanks SSK, that's a great idea... I have used a few knife pics for screen savers and this one would fit the cell phone screen perfectly.

Those pictures do not do justice to how pretty those blades are when viewed
the eye. I saw some at a knife show in Lexington, KY about 4-5 years ago. The dealer
was asking quite a bit of money as I recall.

I happen to have a 2016 Tdrop with the PVD coating. I never use it and am hesitant to use it because just opening and closing the knife a few times has rubbed an arc across the tang stamp and the SS shows through. I doubt it would last too long with real daily use. But it is pretty and so is the knife so that's why I bought it.

I think I have a Trapper here somewhere that was part of a Shepherd Hills Special Factory Order run with black coated blades. However, I think it was done in the last several years, not as old as yours. Very cool and that's a sweet group shot. 😎👍👍
