Hi J.T.! I can't help you with your query, but hang around and someone with more knowledge about your knife will be along shortly. They might ask you for pictures of the tang stamp , or any other markings, so you might want to have those ready to post. Also, to AAPK!

You're most welcome J.T.! You might want to also post your question in the "Henckels Knife Forum", which can be found on the Index Page(this is the page that comes up directly after you log-in)about 3/4 of the way down. That way it'll get more exposure, and the chances of someone being there who frequents that forum who can answer your questions are quite good. Good luck, you have a very nice knife there!

Re: Question about age and value of this JA Henckels
It is a Henckels pattern. My understanding is that in the first years after 1960 Henckels had otther manufacturers make Henckels patterns. Then at some point the knives marked "Henckels" became the same patterns as those of the manufacturer. So 'Henckels made' can be hard to tell from those made in the first years following 1960.
Note i am far from being an expert here so the above might not be accurate.
Can you post a picture, blades closed looking directly down onto blade spines. With some patterns Henckels used thicker blade stock than that used for their contracted out knives.
