Jaeger pocket knifed

I have this 2 blade knife that has the tang stamped with the Jaeger Bros Marinnette, Wisc logo. I have not seen it anywhere and wonder if someone knows about it. I have seen a 1 blade version that is described as a boys knife made about 1920-1930. They were asking $139 for it, though that is not the most important thing.

Welcome to AAPK. Nice knife. There are a lot of posts here about Jaeger Bros knives and a few here who collect them. Here's a thread with some info viewtopic.php?f=2&t=59402. You can find more by using the search function (found under Quick links to the upper left.

I followed your advise to no avail. I still have found nothing about the knife. I think it more than a curiosity. I believe it to be quite old. I will keep looking. Thank you for the links. Tim

Tim ,Welcome
Can’t give you much help. I have a number of Aerial / Jaeger bros . Have not seen this particular one you posted. Can’t tell for sure in pics, but end pins look different from middle pin ,in the way they are hammered . The ,stamp ,believe good , and nice long pulls on both , it may be a good piece. But If it was me ,wouldn’t pull the trigger yet . Can do some checking later if no one else gets back to you . Do the Blades fill up the blade well ,can you get pics from seller ?

Sorry, I thought you were wanting information about Jaeger Bros. If you want to know about the specifics of that exact knife it’s doubtful you’ll find much if anything. The brand is not of great enough interest to collectors to have had people dig out by-pattern details and write books about them, so what you find is some info about the maker, and perhaps some generic info about the pattern’s construction (others made similar knives). Most of what we know about older knives comes from old catalogs.

Hope you find more. I have seen those handles before but don’t recall who made the knives. The more I think about it, I may have one like it here somewhere. I’ll see if I can find it. ::shrug:: An eBay search for sold listings of “Jaeger Brothers knife” didn’t find any that sold for anywhere near the asking price you stated, but none were that pattern.

For what it’s worth I found mine. Same handles, but mine is stamped Challenge Cutlery Corp. over Bridgeport, Conn. on both blades. Challenge went out of business in 1928.

Not sure it helps you but my guess would be both knives were possibly made by the same maker or at least the handle covers came from the same source. Yours has a long pull on the master blade so maybe the blades are from different makers. Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings says Jaeger Brothers is a stamp used by Aerial Cutlery from 1914-1944. You can make an assumption that your knife was made between 1914-1928 (the year Challenge went out of business), or that possibly Aerial Cutlery acquired the handles or the tooling after Challenge went out of business, which puts the knife 1928-1944. Or you could assume someone put a Jaeger Brothers blade in a Challenge knife. Or..........?

More questions than answers unfortunately. Ain’t this fun? ::tu::

It is fun. I agree. There are a lot things that could have happened. I can only hope that another one shows up. I have seen the same handle also, but with a one blade configuration. For sure they are stamped Jaeger Bros. Marinnette, Wisc. Time heals all wounds.

I pulled the trigger on this on ebay for $$$. Figured if someone saw it and thought it special, the hunt would be over. Although the hunt is never over. Thus AAPK. I appreciate the interest you all have taken. It is an unusual piece.

Similar handles are common on older German knives, seen with a variety of markings, i.e. a company was making the metal handles and selling them to knife companies.
These handles could of been imported from Germany and then sold to a few of the USA knife manufacturers.
