All About Pocket Knives

I really like the handle design on these knives. I found most on the Bay. L to R Cattaraugus, Colonial, Kinfolks, & Hammer Brand. I know other makers used this handle style as well. I think I need at least one from each
I don't think they have much value but I collect what I like. The Colonial handle is plastic and the rest are bakelite I think.
My questions, what is this handle style called? I feel like maybe one manufacture made all the handles?
What was the intended purpose of these knives?
Guess on manufacture time frame? I'm thinking 40s-60s? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.
I've learned more in the week I've been a member of AAPK than I could ever google.

REVOLVER: I can't say for sure but those handles look like molded plastic composite to me as opposed to Bakelite. Here's one I have and I've had Catt kitchen cutlery with the same handles. I think my stamp is a little before yours with the script, not positive.(It says. "VANADIUM" in case you can't tell from my pic.) Catt was on it's last legs when these were made. Too bad! No quality compared to their heyday. I still like the boys' hunters though, just because I'm a rabid Catt collector and they remind me of my days in Scouting. Think I paid $3.00 with a sheath. J.O'.

Cool looking group, I really like that Hammer Brand with sheath. Would these be considered Outers patterns?

They are not considered "outers" pattern knives. I would just call them inexpensive hunting/camping knives from the 1950s-1960s, maybe late 40s. True outers knives have self-guard full tang construction like these. They came with bone, stag, or celluloid handle scales

Thanks for the replies, I didn't expect much knowing these aren't collectors. Plastic handles seem right.

Collectors are sort of in the eye of the beholder. I have a huge collection of mostly American hunting knives and most of the knives you have are also in my collection. They may be inexpensive knives but they are in drawers right along with my higher end Case, KA-BAR, Catt, Remington and fine Sheffield knives.

I'll give a large AMEN to that Gene!To me a knife doesn't have to cost a mortgage payment or two;I've fallen all over very inexpensive knives that for one reason or another will,"trip my trigger".

And I have several knives with that style of handle;mostly Cattaraugus and one Colonial.

I always figure you are welcome to collect what you like and that is all that really matters. That said I like what you have there as well. You have a very nice group representing this handle style. Great condition too! I wouldn't doubt the handles all came from the same manufacturer.

Thanks for all the replies, I was thinking unlike some of my other knives were info seems to be plentiful because alot of people own/collect them etc., I hadn't found much about these knives in the past making me think that people weren't collecting them... Making info scarce. I totally agree on collecting what you like. I don't put a value on most of mine because I don't plan on getting rid of them. To me they are all special. Here is some of my favorite pocket knives.
