does not say, its a auction room. they dont tell .who sold or bought it . just what it sold for .

I don't recall that one but was at one of Bruce's auctions when Jim Parker paid $10,000.00 for a Stag 88 Pattern .I thought that was pretty cool at the time .

I was at that auction.That was about 2006 or 7,at the old Grand Hotel convention center.

I sent this to my wife and told her I wanted one just like it for Christmas. I ain’t holding my breath.

It's my understanding the 88 Large Congress is an extremely desirable pattern, I just didn't realize certain ones were 15 grand desirable.

I have a 6488 from 1976, except it's Delrin, and about half used up. I still use and carry it occasionally, but after seeing what prices they bring, I mostly retired it.

It hammered down $13000 + 10% buyers premium.

About how many of these Case Tested 6488 in 'minty' condition do you figure are 'out there' ?

I view this as bizarre, as of course most high dollar auction items are, but beyond that, I have never figured why CASE congress knives are even remotely valuable. They certainly are. Congress knives, in general, are not even particularly collectible or popular. Just one of the many things that I don't understand.

I am not a Case or Congress collector,but the Case 88 pattern is by a large margin the best American made Congress in my opinion.Case puts 4 different blades in their's,and most others just use 2.

It's a Pattern that most granddad's & Farmers carried four blade one for cutting there tobacco one for skinning game one for castrating and one always Sharpe . That's why not many serves in mint shape and bring a premium

From time to time I have spent rather unreasonable amounts of money on a knife so I don't see a problem here; knife collecting does not follow 'reasonable' or logical guidelines. We accept that. There are some other congress knives out there which have four different blades in the pack. Boker has done this in a large congress; it exists both German and USA, and possibly (puke) communist China. And it has been offered in both bone and plastic. I carried one of these every day until it was just worn out, some 25 years.
