Schrade Walden 883

Post by Jeffinn »

I just bought the knife and it’s in decent shape with the exception of one handle. This knife has “bone stag” handles. Does anyone know what jig pattern this is;

Is there a current day jig pattern that comes close to matching this pattern?
Thanks.
Jeff

That is called peachseed bone. Nobody makes that jig pattern today, it was unique to schrade. Herman Williams has one of the old schrade jigging machines and can replicate it closely but he is the only one.

Thanks Paul.
I'll look for a nice set of mahogany colored bone slabs in one of the new jigging patterns then. The knife is in pretty good shape and a couple of new bone handles will definitely make it a great EDC.

Glad to be of any help.

If you take off both of the old bone handles please let me know, I'd be interested in them for parts, especially if the front slab is intact.

The closest thing Culpepper has to the peachseed jigging is what they call RV jigging. It's not a perfect match but it's as close as I have been able to find.

I could talk to Herman about jigging a set for you. Here's an example of his jigging

That’s pretty impressive!
I’m interested of course. Any idea what it would cost to have that done?
Thanks.
