Tang Stamp Assistance

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Does anyone recognize the tang stamp (partial) on this knife? The knife appears to have brass bolsters and mother of pearl handles. It measures approx. 2 1/2" long, closed. Approx. 5" long, both blades open and approx. 1/4" wide. The second line appears to say CUTLERY. ::shrug::

Hi. I have this question posted on another thread (European and other foreign manufactured knives). Someone stated/suggested that it says THE EAGLE CUTLERY. I can't be sure.

The knife looks German to me. I don't know where Eagle Cutlery was but if Dimitri said Eagle, you can probably take that to the bank, he is rarely wrong on things like that!

"Eagle Cutlery" is not the name of a manufacturer. It is a name chosen by an importer who ordered knives from one of the knife manufacturers in Solingen, Germany. This Tuxedo pattern knife is likely at least 100 years old. There were a great many large & small knife manufacturing factories in Solingen 100 years ago so it is impossible to know which manufacturer made it.

Thank you to all. I didn't think it was made in the U.S., I just wanted to know what the tang stamp said. :D ::tu::
