J NOWILL & SONS OLD RARE POCKET KNIFE
Hello
Hey everybody, although I collect old knives I don’t know an awful lot about it and I’m new in the forum. I hope y’all can help me with some answers, specifically about this rare old knife I just came across.
This J NOWILL & SONS is, to my knowledge (based on a little research), not very popular or easy to ID.
Seems to be steel and Ivory. It has a thin blade (most likely due to being constantly sharpened) and it has a pocket clip where you can see the branding. I have no idea of the year it was made but is obviously from Sheffield, England.
I appreciate any info if y’all know anything about it !

Welcome to AAPK! Goins' Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings shows several different J. Nowill & Sons stampings. The company is in Sheffield. All the listings say c 1848-present, so apparently was still in business when the book was published.
As Dale said, please post more pictures of your knife. Looks like an interesting design.

It looks like it may be an attachment for cutting the ends from cigars.

Hard to tell, but it looks like the blade is designed to ease sharp edges, like leather, or hooves, although that blade looks a bit small for hooves.

It's a quill cutter for making quill pens.
Let's see pictures of the entire knife
