Old case 32048

Post by rwb1786 »

The master blade has CASE BRADFORD PA on the front and XX on the back. The secondary blade has the oval with CASE XX TESTED. Other than believing this is celluloid handled from around 1914 - 1920 I was wondering if anyone knows what this ugly green was called or any other info. Thanks

Nice copperhead. Looks like yours is 1920-1940 era. The stamps help me see that mine is propably 1905-1920 which is very helpful. Would like to know if it was originally yellow and faded to green or was green to start. Or even if it is celluloid.

Neither of the knives shown is a copperhead.

Ray is correct they are both 049 patterns. The 32049 appears to be yellow synthetic which in that period had a celluloid content to it. It doesn't appear to be fairing to well.
After checking my Sargent's 7th edition I was incorrect in identifying that as an 049 it is a 048 and Gary's is an 049 because it has a clip at the butt and the 32048 is a barehead. Sorry for my confusion.

Definitely has seen better days. I've not seen many old celluloid handles and couldn't believe that this was originally yellow. I posted a 1920-40 along side it to show the difference. These are the only celluloid I have and wondered if anyone had seen one as green

Looks like waterfall celluloid maybe, if so, a B2048.

I agree on the "water fall"celluloid which is one of the stable celluloids.

Certainly news to me. My main source is the 2nd edition "Collecting Case Knives" and I find no mention of a B handle material. However I do find a little info by googling it. Very good to get your opinions. Thanks
