Here is fancy older 4 blade Senator, 3 1/8", sunk joints, extensivelt file worked springs and blade spines as well as milled liners. Unfortunately there is a full transverse crack in the center of the pearl, both sides. The knife appears unused. The master tang is marked with a crown logo over "D. Herder" with "Germany on the back side. The 2 pen blades have "Germany" on front tang and manicure blade is unmarked.
Anthony Carter's "German Knife & Sword Makers" shows 10 different cutlery manufacturers named "Herder".
The "D. Herder" with logo of a crown is Daniel Herder, who began his cutlery manufacturing business in Germany in 1810. The last change of ownership mentioned is 1928. Does not say if still in business.
This is the only D.Herder marked knife i have seen. The 2 frequently seen manufacturers named Herder are Friedr. Herder Abr.Sohn (spade logo, crossed keys logo, huge output) and Richard Abr. Herder.
Do you have any knives marked "D. Herder" ?
What is your guess regarding age of this D.Herder knife ?

Re: D.Herder Germany
Here's what I found in Russian forums:
Daniel Herder, Stahlwarenfabrik
Location: Germany, Сolingen, Ohligs district
Founding year: 1810.
Trademark: Dahero.
Logotype: crown.
Historical reference
Manufacturer of knives, pocket knives, scissors, razors. In 1900, the owners - Emil and the widow of Herder. In 1925, Alfred Herder. In 1926, Alfred, Rudolf, Richard and Walter Herder.
It seems that the firm closed in 1958. There is Information, but inaccurate.
