Need help with this tang stamp - XXXXX KNIFE WORKS GERMANY

Post by bdev »

Railsplitters post about the Union Cutlery Knife he is looking to purchase sparked me to ask about this old knife I have.
I believe the tang stamp reads UNION KNIFE WORKS GERMANY. Levine's Guide does show a Union Knife Works but it is a USA company in NY. Is it possible they imported also?
Please take a look at the tang stamp and see if you can make out the first word. I see UNION but you might see something different.

PS....I might have asked about this before but if I did, it might have been long ago. I really can't remember.

Thanks......Bruno

It does look like UNION but the only letter I can make out with reasonable certainty is the N at the end.

Neat flush & square joint. BRL says this type of joint was first used in Germany.

Dixon? It's in the book.

Hey Bob....you might be right about Dixon. I have a knife home with a Dixon tang stamp and I'll check it when I get home.
I'll let you know if you're correct.
Bruno

Just checked the other Dixon knife. It's Dixon "Cutlery" not "Knife Works".
Bob....which book did you see Dixon and was it Cutlery or Knife Works?
Levine's only shows Dixon Cutlery.
Thanks.

I was just trying to read the name on the blade. I don't know how the company is listed. My little book just shows Dixon / Germany. No other info is given.
