Col. Coon originals vs. copies

Post by Bataan »

Does anyone here know how to tell the difference between original Col. Coon knives and the more recent ones made by others who bought the rights to their logos and such? Which ones come in those two-piece orange boxes -- is that a clue? Thanks for any input you have.

The 2 piece orange box indicates it is a new one. Also the new ones have a round shield with intersecting CC. Original Adrian Harris Colonel Coons made in Columbia TN have a shield with a coon on the shield. However not all original Colonel Coons had shields. The new coons are made by Queen and it is my understanding that Smokey Mountain Knife Works owns that brand now. Here's a pic of some original coons.

Thanks, BKAZZ! Yes, i think you're right about Smoky Mt. Knives with Kevin Pipes selling them there and on eBay. I should have suspected these were the Queen-made Coons since so many of them recently appeared on-line! Thanks for showing those old, beautiful Col. Coons. That's a great collection of the real McCoys!
