new here, enjoy knives, loads to learn
I really enjoy knives, usually pick up one or two at a flea market just because something about them catches my eye. so far have done pretty well, but I have loads to learn. Stumbled on this site and was tickled to death. If I could ask a question, I have one knife I am having trouble identifying its marked P.B'S IMPROVED if I am reading it correctly loads out there marked improved Boker keeps coming up when I search this name, soooo there must be a reason for that??? or is my computer tired of me looking for this knife and is sending me anything it can find? I sure hope somebody can shed some light on this. Thank you. blue

Welcome here, blueheeler1959.
Maybe, just maybe, it's Paul Bros.

First of all, welcome to AAPK!
Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings does not show a listing under that name, but that’s not all that unusual.
It appears the knife may have a metal handle, is this correct? Can you tell if the handle is hollow? Also, is this a folding knife or a fixed blade.
If it is a hollow handled knife, what we call a “shell handle” then I suspect it is from Germany. They began the use of shell handle knives circa 1900 and possibly even earlier.
I look forward to hearing more about this knife and perhaps seeing pictures from different angles.

Welcome aboard. I believe you will both enjoy it here and learn a lot; and perhaps we will learn a thing or two from you. It could happen.

Re: new here, enjoy knives, loads to learn
sorry for not getting back so quickly I am dealing with a rotten cold that keeps knocking me flat, I do have other views of the knife it is a pocket knife single blade, I do not see any indication of where it is made, only 2 1/2" long and 1/2" wide at thickest end. all metal three rivets , not sure what else to tell you, here are the other views I have if you would like more I can take them, ask you shall receive. thank you for all the welcomes. Re: new here, enjoy knives, loads to learn
opps meant to say, Joe, seems like the Paul Bros, could be the ticket I picked this knife up in a second hand store along with another one, I think I still have that was from the very early 1900's more of a man's dress knife for Sunday's little diamond chip in the side all that type of thing. If I find it will put back what it was the shop owner said they all came from the same fellas grandfather. Sounds like I have to start looking for some of the ref books you all are using, I have just been cruisin the internet. Thanks again. BLue

to AAPK, glad you found us! Some of us here write articles for national knife magazines and one of those is Lee (aka LongBlade). Lee is wrapping up a story on Boy's Knives and should be able to help you answer some questions.
