Pre-1970 Phillipine Balisong

Are there any down sides to collecting Pre-1970 Balisong or Butterfly knives? Are they still illegal in Maryland?

Can they be accurately dated?

Not sold on Ebay and illegal in some States.

Locating them will not be easy, unless there are specialty forums, such as that on BF, where one can contact collectors of like interest.

I have a few early balisong knives. They are not particularly well constructed and the steel in them is of questionable quality. In my opinion they are primarily novelty knives. As was said before there are many states that they are deemed illegal for whatever reason. Some of the later ones(primarily Pacific Cutlery)are of very high quality and their prices reflect this. If you are looking to collect them as an investment, you may wait a long time to reap any profit. If you wish to collect them because you like them then go for it! This is why I collect knives and have been doing so for the past 60 years. Here are some of mine.

Thanks, for the info. The ones that I have, I purchased in 1965. I was in the service there.
