Need to find brands that have knives without ball bearings
Need to find brands that have knives without ball bearings
Hi
The only brand that I know that has knives with no ball bearings and have the index finger tap to deploy the blade is Steel Will. The index finger tap I refer to is shown in the picture I cannot use the thumb tap or the hole to deploy the blade, so it has to have the index finger tap. That rules out Cold Steel. Any suggestion of brands in the price range of $40 to $80 is appreciated.
Thanks

Seems we already went down this road a couple months ago. Looks like the identical OP, but a different member name.

I would check into the Boker Kalashnikov autos. If you have a finger that works a flipper you should be able to push the button. And they're readily available and reasonably priced. Remember - a knife is not a pry bar.

I am not sure I understand the issue with ball bearings. Can you explain it to me?

In the prior thread (linked above) an attempted explanation was provided. If you can't understand it after reading that, you're not alone.

If you're missing your thumbs and your job requires you to daily stab your way through dry wall, then it might make sense. Other than that . . .

I think the OP is promoting Steel Will knives on us.

That thought occurred to me also.

Re: Need to find brands that have knives without ball bearings
In both of his posts Ken, he asks questions but then goes back to his Steel Will as being the only one he's come across, so that's why it seemed he was pushing them on us, at least for opinions on HIS knife. Also, when he was asked WHY he wants a knife without bearings, he brushed it off saying he doesn't want to get into it, which is usually a sign that you're hiding something, otherwise why not explain your reasoning as requested. Besides all this, he was kindda rude in his post from 2 months ago where he states, "nobody has anything here", as well as exposing himself as a member of another forum by posting "I'm surprised this forum doesn't have post #" like it's done at BladeForums or one of those other sites. But the biggest tell-tale sign that somethin's rotten in Denmark is the fact he hasn't made another post since he was called out on having posted the same thing a couple months ago, unless of course he hasn't read this yet. Just why he would go to all the trouble of re-registering and re-posting an old topic is a mystery to me!
Re: Need to find brands that have knives without ball bearings
He explained that the bearings are a weak point when prying, which is a total no-no with knives anyway. Also says his main use for the knife is self defense so maybe it'll be used to pry an eyeball or some ribs out. IDK
Doesn't want assisted open since he lives in California. It was explained to him that many assisted open knives are allowed in California (without bearings) and are actually for sale in stores in that very state, he didn't seem to believe it.

Yah, true enough Joe, but are they Cali legal, will they pry stuff, are they assisted, can you carry them, are they between $40.-$80., are they the right color, can they be used when it's raining, do they open smoothly on Tuesdays, and on and on and.....!

In reality Eric, I don't think he has any idea of what he wants!ea42 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 11:11 pm He explained that the bearings are a weak point when prying, which is a total no-no with knives anyway. That was quite a bit of sleuthing, Mark. I'm proud of you.

Way to go Mark you nailed it , the guy is just trying to push his knives and get free advertising. To bad he did not learn the first time.
Re: Need to find brands that have knives without ball bearings
In addition, he wants his knife to be able to play Chopin on the piano, prepare a spaghetti dinner, and be documented to have worked on the NASA space shuttle. Only Steel Will will do!

Ha, ha, ha! Thanks John and Gordy!
I get lucky occasionally and seem to be able to see through all the BS regarding what's fact and what's fantasy, and after going back and forth to his old post and this new one, the nonsense was crystal clear to me.
I have real trouble understanding why someone would go to all the trouble of fabricating a story, twice, just to have others reply honestly with valid solutions that are just ignored anyway. Some people's children, I'm tellin' ya!
