Margarine soft X26 at the rope

Post by old4570 »

= test

I purchased this knife because it was supposed to be bad ( bad to the bone ) . ::tu::
What can I say , I have some plans / ideas / tests I want to run and , this knife has ruined them ! ::dang::

Oh well !

Blade is margarine soft , knife is cheap , and the stupid thing is making a mockery out of my plans .

Do I need to review it ?

A) Fake Gerber
B) Wonky build ( lots of slop )
C) Blade steel is mild steel soft
D) Just screams bad knife
E) Made a lot of more expensive knives look stupid

Edge is my 180 grit diamond cut 22 deg bevel . ::sotb::
And this cheap N nasty knife went 190 slices of rope . ::facepalm::
What is going on here ? Why are cheap knives kicking expensive knives to the curb ?

I put it on the whetstone grinder / knife sharpener and put a new edge on it .
I want to see what happens . ::teary_eyes::

If you take out everything after the "&" your second link will work. 😉👍

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

I don't understand. You say "Blade is margarine soft", but it makes 190 cuts through rope and slices paper. If the steel is soft the edge would deform after a couple of cuts.
What is the brand name of this knife ?

Most knives with a brand name and an "X" with a number after it is counterfeit. There are over a dozen Buck knives out there with this exact marking. "X" with a number, w/Buck etched somewhere on the blade.

Some examples:

Clearly stated = FAKE Gerber ( So a Gerber X26 )

Dont understand ! = I dont understand !

It has a new whetstone grinder edge , but I was busy this morning and now it's hot outside .
I have several knives I want to retest ( whetstone grinder edge ) .

But yeah , the diamond hone / sharpener ate the steel with the greatest of ease .
THe harder the diamond bites something , the softer it is .

I need 50 thou worth of test equipment ! ::hmm::

Whetstone grinder !

So I put a new edge on the X26 ..
Not only did I put a new edge on the knife , I also threw away the nylon washers the blade was running one and replaced them with brass washers .
With the washers fitted ( spaced correctly ) , there is now zero blade play .
Honestly , why would I not fix it , if its going to perform ?

And I lost count cutting rope , ( video ) ...
300 Slices of rope ! Thats right !
I purchased this knife because I wanted it to be bad - NOT Good !

Unfortunately what I have is a very disappointing bad knife ( because it turned out to be good ) . ::woot::
Ok I did have to fix the blade play , but that chore was very much worth while .
So what I have is a knife punching well above it's class . ::mdm::
I had to get a freak X26 right ! It has thrown all my plans into chaos . ::shrug:: ( plans I had for the knife )
