I'm a little late with my comment but......Anyway that was an interesting review. As I understand it the Karambit is a martial arts tool requiring specific training. As you point out Scott, it's not very practical as an EDC, but in the hands of a trained specialist it can be formidable. Or so I have read.

I learned about the karambit a few months ago - the Doug Mercaida video's on youtube demonstrate what that knife can do in the hands of an expert martial artist. If you ever see somebody pull one of those out from under their shirt, run ... just run.
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

That's with any knife, unless you bring your pistol.

no actually the karambit is something quite different than a regular knife to a martial artist - you have to see what can be done with one to see what I mean. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyR-DZ8dTVg&t=629s

Not implying that a karambit in the hands of even Doug Mercaida is a match for a Colt 1911 (given adequate separation distance) ...

Cool knife for the price but as you stated - not good in your pocket unless they're extra deep. No doubt it's effective as a combative weapon but one can always counter with any opened knife or fixed blade just as effectively. Advantage goes to a gun of course and even a staff or axe handle...

IMO the key to a knife defense with the karambit, or any other knife, is its surprise arrival at the scene. One moment it is not seen, the next moment it is doing its terrible work. May such considerations always remain purely theoretical.

Quick Steel, I get where your handle came from now. :D Yes, I agree. ::tu:: The element of surprise is always a powerful advantage. And the knife is great in close quarters situations too. Hence the wakizashi (the companion sword) that most samurai carried along with their katana were carried for close quarters. The two karambit knives here are nice in fantasy or real life. Great review there, TripleF. ::tu::
