PVC sheath
PVC sheath
My dad used to make these sheaths for kitchen knives he used in the field. It could be thrown in a bucket, stuck in your belt, whatever. Cheap, safe, customizable, washable.
He would heat the pipe with a heat gun then squish it flat around the knife. Leaving the bottom open for drainage. Keep heating and adjusting for some retention. Insanely simple, and brilliant at the same time.
Do it in outside space, if it ignites, it will make toxic fumes. Safety first!

Re: PVC sheath
This I like very much. I have been wondering about how to take some of my kitchen and butcher knives with me occasionally. I will try it!
Re: PVC sheath
Forgot to mention he left the ends flat so they stayed more or less up right in a bucket. Plus it is safer than a pointy end.
Also try experiment with different pipe diameters, depending on the knife.
If anybody tries it, I'd appreciate pictures.
Happy New Year!

Re: PVC sheath
Found another one behind the seat in his pickup truck. This one he finished off. Shaped it and rounded it off, no rough edges. Not sure what he used to glue it, my guess is regular PVC cement.
Re: PVC sheath
Very creative. Unappreciated genius because it is pvc but brilliance none the less.
Re: PVC sheath
Thanks for the kind words guys. My Dad would be happy has idea is being used. I don't know how he figured it out. He was not even a plumber, and had no internet access.
If anybody tries to make one, I'd like to see pictures. Thanks.

Re: PVC sheath
I hope this picture posts, kinda new at this. Made a PVC scabbard for a Craftsman branded Scrade H-15 from some scrap I had off an electrical job. The pic doesn’t show it, but on the back side, I lined up the “Made in America” stamping to run down the backside of the sheath. Attaches and removes easily from my belt, fits around the guard so the knife kinda snaps in. All in all, I’m pretty pleased with it.
Never even met your dad, but I like him already.
