Unsure where to begin!

Post by Jeannie89 »

Hi folks,
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum or if it's a dumb question. I know nothing about knives but am trying to surprise a good friend. A few decades ago, my friend was given a "1980's The Edge Company Top Automatic Double Action OTF Switchblade knife" as a gift. Since then, something he referred to as the knife's leaf spring has broken, rendering the knife unusable. I'd like to replace it for him. However, I have no idea where to get a leaf spring that fits this knife or if any one will do. (I'm also, truth be told, having a hard time even locating "leaf springs" online.) I looked up his knife online and found a similar one, but it had a big ol' Swastika on it, so I'd rather not purchase it to replace the spring. Any ideas on where I can look? If I just walk into a store that sells knives but don't have the knife with me, will they be able to point me to the appropriate spring? (The part I'm looking for is in the picture)

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Jeannie

I'm sure if he sees this he will reply to you, but if not send a pm to Muskrat Man. He is very knowledgeable on switchblades.

Unless you can find a donor knife, parts are not available.
Therefore the spring would have to be hand made.

Oh darn! Well, I guess I'll go looking for another knife that I can steal the part from. Thank you!
