don't have any cutler advice but just lookin' at the 2nd picture, should the clip blade have been installed on the other side of the brass scale on that end of the knife? It would sure take quite a krink to line it up as it is. ::shrug::

Yeah looks like the bit at the end of the master should be on the other side.

You guys are right, the only weird thing is from what I can see into the knife it looks like a cut center rather than catch bits. Of course I could be wrong with these eyes lol! Dave on the back of the knife does it look like there are two liners alongside each other? If not the spring should be about double the width of the blade tang with a small brass bit alongside the blade taking up the extra space.

Eric

PS, now that I look at it again i think it's catch bits but still not positive. ::shrug::

I think a pic looking straight into the pocket with the blades open would help. But I would think that it would have to be taken apart and put back together correctly. If its still under warranty like Phil said, send it back ::tu::

I think that it is a single spring knife with both blades riding on the same spring. I think the brass pieces are the ends of a cut scale, probably put in place to make the blade well a little wider in order to be able to fit both blades in??
Dan
Or, it could be a single wide backspring and then those would be catch bits??, in which case it would be assembled wrong. If it is a wide spring with catch bits, why wouldn't the master blade been made as wide as the back spring, with only a catch bit at the small blade end?

It at first glance looks like the spacer liner was installed on the wrong side of the knife. Were it on the other side the pen blade could easily snuggle in the extra space and the clip wouldn't need any krinking at all. However I believe they were made that way and had a drastic krink right at the plunge line on the cip blade, they got a little carried away with this one it looks like.

That knife looks either previously used and the main blade was bent somehow, or it's a new knife that should not have made it through QC.

What would happen with knives culled by Schrade-Walden QC ? Were then permenantly disposed of ? Or were they stored somewhere for possible future repair during slow times ?
If the latter then possibly this knife was culled & stored and then scooped up and put in with other knives being auctioned in lots after 2004 closure ?

Wasn't Schrade fairly good about grinding stamps off tangs and keeping their seconds well-segregated from their top line stuff?

Some of the "seconds" I've got are tight, clean and sound like any Schrade I've ever had, I can't find the defects on most, but they carry just as well as the full-priced ones. ::shrug::

Blister, you gotta loosen up them suspenders and let a couple them Waldens roam free lookin for some new homes!
