Glad your enjoying this Will! Well here are some more pics of the work so far! The more I work that Giraffe bone the prettier it gets! I wanted Greg to get an idea about how this will look so I held it all together with my fingers to snap a couple of pics.

The pins are made. The blade pivot pin I had to make as well as the brass "washers". "Butt" and "rocker" pins are ready. Next step is to drill the pin holes. I don't want to mess that up! Having a few muscle spasms today so I will pick up tomorrow where I left off. Take a good look at those scales and see how they shine! And that's only from the shaping! Wait until I actually start to polish this bad boy!

Greg, I just showed #goldpan's pictures to Miss Joy, she said, "Wow, that pretty!" So y'all can proceed with the project since you have an old woman's approval ::paranoid:: , well she is an old woman, she older than me and I'm old ::nod:: .

I have to agree with you guys! AAPK is the reason that I can do this. Until I joined I knew nothing about knife repair. I collected knives that I knew nothing about just because I like knives. I found AAPK and started to learn the history of the knives in my accumulation and the rest just grew from there. Back to the sodbuster. Just preparing to install the pins! After that its finishing time! I'll post pics later. When it comes to pinning my own knives I get a little cavalier sometimes and make mistakes. Not on this one! I'm taking my time here. If I break a scale on my knife I feel real bad, if I broke the scale on Greg's knife I would just die. It gonna be good though! No pics at the moment, but tonight I'll post some up. The fixed blade is 1/3 done Greg. That stag is going to be sweeeet! But I want to finish the sodbuster first. I hope to have both knives in the mail by Saturday. So they should be in your hands early next week Greg!

Well Greg here are the mock up pics I promised! I just finished spinning the pins down to the correct size. Next is cutting the bird's eye relief. This has got to be right the first time! I had to make the bird's eyes.Later Case sodbusters had cutlers rivets for the pivot pin but not this one. However I am using the head off the cutlers rivets to make the bird's eyes with. I drilled the hole right down the center and now I have to cut the "stem" off of the rivets and cut the seats for them in the scales. Think I will take a break here and get a deep breath. After that's done its time to put it all together! Again I am going to take my time. Its my first time doing the bird's eye rivets, its going to be very nice! Now I may have to get some giraffe bone and a large sodbuster and make one for myself! I have a sodbuster jr. as well. What a nice pair that would make! Anyway here are the mock up pics!

Whatever the bone type, turning out well. Good job Randy!

What is the deal with the green bone CASE fixed blade Greg?

Oh OK. Just did not want you sending it my way with flaws. I will wait till Randy has finished working his magic.

Alright here the last pics for today. The pins are in to check fit and function. So before I decided to take it apart and do some fitting I thought I would take a few pics.

Boy, that's sure pretty! I have an old CASE 64047 here that needs lots of help. That camel bone just might be the trick! Very nice work!

Update: I have learned something about camel bone. As I work the scale to its final dimensions I have noticed that camel bone wants to flake along the grain. Can't really get a decent pic. But I need to be real careful at his point. I am ready to assemble peen and finish. There is a lot of sanding left to do and I know the flaking will sand out. I may need to use some CA to stabilize it as I sand it to the final dimensions. Flaking makes me nervous. Time to take a break! I may take a little longer to finish Greg. Hope that's alright. At this point I want to be cautious.

Randy, you take as much time as you need my friend. I'm in no hurry . I'm also enjoying seeing all the little things that go into rebuilding a knife and the curve balls you encounter! :D
