Shapleigh Diamond Edge #S233 Easy Open Jack
Shapleigh Diamond Edge #S233 Easy Open Jack
This restored knife is a Shapleigh Diamond Edge (DE) #S233.
This knife is actually two knives combined into one. The pen blade was nearly used up so I got a better pen blade from the second knife and used it. I think the reason that pen blade was not as used up was because the back spring had broken and that blade could not be used in that frame.
I put the pen blade from the second knife into the first knife and rebuilt it.
For the handle I used Goldenroot RJ B jigged bone. Both of the knives I used to build this knife were obviously well loved and carried extensively.
I suspect they was made in the 1950s or earlier since the handles were an early black composite made prior to Delrin.
The knife was of course made for Shapleigh Hardware. I imagine this easy open pattern was very popular in its day.
It is unusual to find two knives of the same pattern that I can combine to make a complete knife when it is not a brand I collect.
I purposely left the knife a little rough since there was no way I could get the blades looking perfect. I left some patina on the blades because I think it looks better with as much use as they had seen. I just fell in love with the knife and felt it deserved a second chance at life, scars and all!
Once it gets a little pocket time it will look like it was born with bone handles.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.

I have one of these in original condition, not quite as used, the blades are probably 80% or better. Original green bone handles, no chips or cracks, strong snap both blades open and close. Any idea of what it may be worth? Thanks Tater

Dale you are a gifted artist. Your knives are never too much but always just right. That is a knife a man would be proud to own. Great job.

Where did you buy the bone handles? I like them.
Re: Shapleigh Diamond Edge #S233 Easy Open Jack
I got them from Culpepper's, I just don't remember what jigging pattern or color they are. I do know that I sanded the handles down to give it more of a pocket worn look.
