Robeson ShurEdge 722376 With New Ruby Red Bones

Post by herbva »

I don't think I've ever actually paid money for a letter opener before, but when I saw the tang stamp on the knife part of this one (1916-1939) I couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately the MOP scales were not in the best shape before, and certainly not after I got done removing them (and they had someone's name engraved on them anyway). The ruby red bone came from Culpepper back when they actually had some really good discount deals, and I finally figured out what to use 2 pieces of it for. Unfortunately, somewhere in it's past history the letter opener part was used as a pry bar. I got it straightened out as best I could, but if you look closely at the 3rd from last pic, the tip is still just a teenie-tiny bit wavy. I wasn't even aware that Robeson made letter openers, but I think this one will work just fine for slicing open envelopes that come in the mail. :D

Great looking work, Herb. I like the red bone you used too. 😎👍👍 Looks like it could be in line with their Strawberry bone.

Nice job!

I need to get my Utility Jack rescaled. I hated the ivory celluloid on it, and then after a few weeks of carry, a chunk fell out at the mark side center pin.

I accidentally got into old letter openers (especially those with spey/ink eraser blades that fold out) when a member here mentioned finding a Case V42 on eBay for peanuts as it was listed as a letter opener. Still haven't bought one yet.

That red looks good! Great save!
I had a few of their reds that were more along the line of hot pink so I rarely buy that color from them anymore.
And yes, Culpepper used to have better deals and they used to give free shipping when you spent over $100. I think it’s $200 now to get free shipping. I still buy from them but not as often as I used to.

Your red covers beautifully complement the opener. ::tu::

Too bad about the pearl but you sure kept it upgraded to fine with the new covers you put on it. ::tu::

I have one too in Mother of Toilet Seat.
