Re: UTICA !!!
I found this old girl hiding at the bottom of display at a junk store $9. It looks early and is in good condition. I love the bone. Still has some snap too. Served someone well. I cleaned a pound if crude out of it before it would work. First UTICA I ever got

Re: UTICA !!!
I'd love to find a dating chart too, Scott. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, Utica only used about four or five stamps since they're conception. I've seen two variations of the arched UTICA stamp, then the straight line stamp with the made in USA stamp and the KUTMASTER stamp. I'm guessing that the arched stamp was used up to 1937 when they went to the KUTMASTER stamp while still using the straight line UTICA stamp for who knows how long, and of course the modern arched stamp. Dating a UTICA, I think, will always be a mystery.

Re: UTICA !!!
Picked this one up at the CKKC show. Ok first off knife is a little over 5" closed. I know it's been modified. I have seen another way back when that was done with finger grooves instead of the deep sway. Question was this a contract knife or did Utica make it? What would the pattern be? Age I believe the curved Utica stamp is early 30's?
Re: UTICA !!!
I've heard this type of knife referred to as both a banana jack or toad sticker. I would guess that Utica made it. Case, Remington, Napanoch, Valley Forge, Winchester and a host of other companies made the pattern. Most are early pre-1940 knives but the pattern has been resurrected in newer knives as well.

Re: UTICA !!!
Looks to me like, at some point in time, someone took that to the garage and made an EZ-Open out of it. I do like that saber ground blade.

Re: UTICA !!!
It has been 5 years since I posted this knife on AAPK. There might be some new members that have never seen a curved UTICA stamped knife with slanted grooved and pinched bolsters, whittler pattern, with 3 back springs and a great etch.

Very fancy knife Mike. There was a HARPER MACINTIRE HARDWARE wholesaler in Ottumwa Iowa about 50 miles from where I live up to the 50's. I found one of their catalogs but it was not one of the old ones and the selection of knives was pretty basic.
