UTICA !!!
Re: UTICA !!!
Very nice, Joe. I love blades with a saber grind.
Beautiful knife, Mike. Great-looking bone and a nice etch.
This harness jack is the only Utica I have.

Thanks Dave.
Well, for only having one you sure got a good one. That's quite the knife pattern right there.

Re: UTICA !!!
Great knife Dave, in the catalog they call the pattern a SYRAIN and the pattern number is 421049. Great knife!!
Re: UTICA !!!
Thanks a lot, Mike! I'm really glad to know the pattern number and what it's called. That's a pretty unusual name Utica gave it too.

Mike has some great Uticas and that last one of yours Joe is a dandy. I too, love the bone on Mike's.
Like Joe said Dave .that is a killer pattern in very good shape.
Here's one of the several Utica farmers jacks I have ( I'd have to count, but at least 7 or more

Re: UTICA !!!
A Western States 2nd up from the bottom, old Jordan St Louis towards middle,Utica black composition ,and others which are part of the above post, I think, because I never labeled the entries.
I know of 3 or 4 more Utica's, at least, I have. They were a prolific maker,as noted with these various stamps . One or two marked ( the Cutsure- Kruse and Bahlmann Hardware ) by different companies have a U on the opposite side of the mark.
I also have seen a pattern of darker bone on the pile side of Utica's ,which I don't think you can attribute to sun bleaching.

Re: UTICA !!!
Here are a couple of Utica's that I recently got. The cattle knife was a bit rough when I got it but it's in better shape now after a clean and sharpening.
Re: UTICA !!!
Thanks Joe
Re: UTICA !!!
Welcome Steve.
As Joe said ,great pictures of good knives.Old Uticas were good quality and that cattle knife is a dandy.I've heard that handle material called Irish soap, but don't think that was from the manufacturer's .

Re: UTICA !!!
Thanks for the info Kyle ! I was wondering if it was celluloid or something else maybe ?
Re: UTICA !!!
Welcome Steve and nice knives .. I especially like that cattle knife ..
The handles are celluloid... I have a Winchester whittler with the same exact celluloid and was told by a few it was called faux horn...

Re: UTICA !!!
Picked up this Utica jack this week, really nice bone. Seeing pictures of other Utica's in this thread it looks like they used very nice bone on the early knives, you all have some great examples.

Re: UTICA !!!
If I had known in 1988, that Utica Cutlery was located on Noyes Street, my collecting might have gone in a completely different direction.
Beautiful knife.
