I have some of these most are red one is a different color. Very interesting and simple knife designNew_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 4:43 pm My most recent addition to my collection is this all metal pocket knife. While it is NOT actually an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it is a "cousin." It fits right in with the other "cousins" with a similar handle style, such as EAGLE KNIFE CO., the GEO. SCHRADE, IMPERIAL and BOKER Scout utensil kit knives

When you first look at them, they look "cheap" and "flimsy."
But, although they are made with the most basic construction,
they are very sturdy and durable. Just like the wire handle jacks
and also, the scout mess kit utensils.

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
This afternoon, this pocket knife became the latest addition to my collection. It's another U.S.A., single blade, cap lifter/bottle opener, all metal, 3" closed, advertising fob/key ring pocket knife. The other one like this is posted on the previous page. There are no MAKER markings other than U.S.A. on the handle. The handle has 99% of the factory applied coating. It advertises "POCKET PARDINER NO L 47 - WITH THE EXCLUSIVE SAFE-T-SLIDE." I bought this particular pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar style/pattern. This particular fob/key ring pocket knife has a slide lock which works fine. It needed no cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

same/similar, factory applied handle coating:

Interesting find Skip. Great shape. Neat locking idea! Is the frame a painted finish or some kind of plating with print!?New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 10:38 pm This afternoon, this pocket knife became the latest addition to my collection. Thank you Smitty.
I don't know exactly what material the handle coating is made
of, or how the handle coating is applied. But I'm 99.999% sure
that it isn't paint. It gives the appearance of being covered in
leather.

Thank you Tom.
I am going to investigate the handle coating question.
I have a few other pocket knives with the same type of
coating on the handles. I think it was applied to the handle(s)
so the user had a better grip, instead of gripping just the bare metal.
I don't believe that it was applied strictly as a decorative feature. But.....

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
Yesterday afternoon I added this to my collection. It is another ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH, N.Y. (1917-1925), single blade, 4 7/8" closed, 8 5/8" open, pocket knife. This is my fourth pocket knife of this particular pattern. It is the elusive pattern No.20, the "Ni**er Chaser." That's not my term, see the pattern ad, the last picture on page 9. It has no tang stamp(s), both stamps are on the handle. This "20" still has 99.999% of the factory applied handle oxidation. It is in FANTASTIC condition and required no cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

The "style" of the telephone number on it, FR 4-8856 (two letters & five numbers), dates it to the 1930's.
