Hey all.....
I just landed this one, so I don't have it in hand yet.
I usually think of Providence Cutlery knives as being a "cheaper made" knife..... BUT.....
This one has mother of pearl handles and looks older since it has button hook at one end.
The tang stamp is arched.... Which looks early to me.
and button hook shoes were only in vogue from about 1860 to the 1930's (as I have read).
I haven't found a lot of history concerning Providence Cutlery co.. Y'all have any OLDER Providence Cutlery knives?
AND.... this one even comes with a leather pouch..... which may (or may not) have come with the knife for storage in a ladies purse.
Thanks for looking y'all.

Nice one!
There were at least two separate Providence Cutlery Companies.
Yours appears to be the early one...most likely made in Germany or Bohemia.
In the 1880 to 1920 time frame, many German knife companies used tang marks that sounded like New England brands - just for marketing knives exported to the USA.
Brands like Bay State Cutlery, Worcester Cutlery, and others.
The other Providence Cutlery made the low end "crimped bolster" knives, they were still in business in the mid 1980's, but I'm not sure when they started.

Ahhhhhh yes, Germany.
There is something on the back side of the blade tang you can barely see..... I bet it is "GERMANY" in a circle.
