This morning I added this, "THE W & H CO - USA - NEWARK NJ", single blade, 2 1/16" closed, all metal fob/key ring pocket knife to this topic/thread and to my collection. This is my first fob/key ring pocket knife that advertises this particular company or business. It says "WILLIAMS - CAW BRAND - LATCH NEEDLES" on one side of the handle and an image of a latch needle is stamped into the other handle. Until I googled "latch needle", I thought that the handle was damaged. It needed very little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.
Caption(s), if any, are on the BOTTOM of the corresponding picture(s).

***** Latch needles were (and still are ::shrug::) used in knitting and in the textile industry.
The last picture (NOT mine) is of a group of latch needles. The latch needle image that is
stamped on the knife, matches the latch needle that is the fourth image (the latch is partially open)
from the top, in the last picture. *****

Great find Skip. I bet that is one you don't see often. I knew of latch needles, I had an Aunt that worked at a textile mill that had the knitting machines. Some of the machines were huge.

I am posting the following for posterity and for future reference. The tracking said that this pocket knife was delivered
to my P.O. Box on Tuesday, July 6th. It may have been delivered to a P.O. Box, but it wasn't delivered to mine. I was
really looking forward to getting this one, as the blade just doesn't look quite right to me (just going by the pictures).
Also, I can not detect any evidence of a tang stamp and the pivot pin doesn't look quite right as well (too big).
I was hoping that this example might have been a missing link to one of the manufacturers of these types of pocket knives. So, in case it never gets delivered to me, I am posting the only two pictures of it that are available.
These are the seller's unedited pictures.

Interesting looking blade Skip.

O.K......I'm gonna be that guy that asks a stupid question! Have you shown the tracking sheet, along with your copy from your sales to the Post Office to see if they may remember the box or item being placed in a different box at your Post Office??? This happened to me many years ago when I had a P.O. Box in a neighboring town. I brought it to their attention the same day I went to pick it up. They found it in a P.O. Box that was above mine, and whoever had that box had not checked their mail yet. The postal worker had misplaced it. Hopefully if the person at your P.O. had gotten the box, they would be honest enough to turn it in to the postal worker. Hope it works out!!

.....and the quest continues. This arrived today and became my most recent addition to this topic/thread and to my collection. I did purchase another one of these this morning. It "should" arrive sometime next week. Pictured below is a ROBESON - ShurEdge - U.S.A., 2 blade, 1 tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal pocket knife. Both sides of the handle have advertising for "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY - HARTFORD, CONN. -- TICKET DEPARTMENT." This is the fourth pocket knife of this particular style/pattern that I've obtained. But it is the first pocket knife of this particular style/pattern with a ROBESON tang stamp. The tang stamp is the "block style." So, besides manufacturing one of the other styles/patterns of pocket knives for "W & H", ROBESON can also now be connected to the manufacturing of this style/pattern of pocket knife for Whitehead & Hoag. It did not need any cleaning. I couldn't quite capture the true color of the handles. They are a bright "silver" in color. The last picture is of the ROBESON tang stamp that is on the other style/pattern "W & H" pocket knife. The investigation continues.....

Here are a couple of unimportant items regarding these "W & H" fob/key ring, advertising pocket knives.
Item #1.
Here are, in alphabetical order, the states that are represented by most,
but not all, of the advertising on these pocket knives (as of this posting).
Also, there is one advertised foreign country (as of this posting).
These are the pocket knives that ONLY have the "W & H" tang stamp(s).

1. Illinois
2. Indiana
3. Massachusetts
4. Michigan
5. New Jersey
6. New York
7. Ohio
8. Pennsylvania
9. West Virginia
10. Montreal, Canada

Item #2.
NOT ONE pocket knife posted under this topic or thread
has a telephone number advertised anywhere on it (so far).
Yes, telephone service was available for businesses and for residences at this time.

This pocket knife arrived this morning. It's a nice addition to my collection and also to this topic/thread. It's a "THE W & H Co. - NEWARK NJ", "PROMETHEUS-GRUPPE", single blade, single tool (a button hook), 2 tang stamps, 2 1/8" closed pocket knife. On the main side, it features an image of PROMETHEUS and says "PROMETHEUS-GRUPPE" - "PROF E MÜLLER" I'm pretty sure about the PROF E, but I'm positive about MÜLLER in that second line. Professor Eduard Müller was a sculptor (google him). On the other side, it features the head shots of two women. This is only my second example of this pattern/style of pocket knife that has a "W & H" tang stamp. This pocket knife has two of the "block" style tang stamps. So far, it is the third style (the oldest I believe) and the least common of the tang stamps for the "W & H" pocket knives that I've found. So, which cutlery company manufactured this style of pocket knife for the "W & H" company? I have no idea, but the investigation continues moving forward. However, from what I've seen/found so far, Whitehead & Hoag items with female and more specifically, "risqué" images, are not too common. I took some pictures and here it is.

This afternoon, this pocket knife became the most recent addition to my collection and to this topic/thread. Pictured below is another L.F. & C. - U.S.A. (LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK), 2 blade, 1 tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed pocket knife. Both sides of the handle have an ad for "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY - HARTFORD. CONN.-- TICKET DEPARTMENT."
This is the sixth pocket knife of this style/pattern that I've obtained and it is the second one with a L.F. & C. tang stamp. The tang stamp is the "block style." L.F. & C. is one of the cutlery companies that is involved with Whitehead & Hoag. The other five pocket knives of this particular style/pattern have all been previously posted throughout this topic/thread. It required very little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

My purpose for starting this topic/thread, was to try and determine which cutlery companies made or had a hand in the manufacturing of pocket knives for the Whitehead & Hoag Company. This afternoon, I added this pocket knife to my collection and to this topic/thread. It is a VALLEY FORGE, double blade with cap lifter/bottle opener, 3 tang stamps,
3 7/16" closed, all metal pocket knife. There is NO ADVERTISING on this knife at all. The main blade tang stamp reads VALLEY FORGE - CUTLERY CO. - NEWARK N.J. The tang stamps on the secondary blade with opener say VALLEY FORGE - CUTLERY CO. on one side and on the other side it says PATENTED - MAY 18, 1909. So, did the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY have a hand in the manufacturing process or actually manufacture any of pocket knives for the Whitehead & Hoag Company? And if they did, were they involved before, during, or after H. BOKER & Co. bought the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY in 1899? I DO NOT have any hard evidence yet. What I do have so far, is an ad from a 1912 Whitehead & Hoag catalog (very last picture) that features a pocket knife that is ALMOST IDENTICAL, I emphasize ALMOST, to the posted VALLEY FORGE pocket knife. Identical as far as the handle shapes and the blade(s) with tool are concerned. Obviously the handle design(s) and the tang stamps are different. What I need to find and obtain now, is the same pattern/style of pocket knife, but with ANY Whitehead & Hoag (W & H) tang stamp. Finding and obtaining a same pattern/style of pocket knife, but with a H. BOKER tang stamp would also be VERY acceptable. I would consider these to be good, hard pieces of evidence that would connect H. BOKER and VALLEY FORGE to Whitehead & Hoag. This pocket knife required very little cleaning, but the secondary blade & tool has a couple of visible issues. I took some pictures and here it is. The very last picture is of the 1912 Whitehead & Hoag catalog ad.
The investigation and hunt continues.....
Caption(s), if any, are on the BOTTOM of the corresponding pictures.
Click on a picture to ENLARGE.

So, as of and including this posting, here are the cutlery companies that I believe manufactured or at least had a hand in the manufacturing process of the pocket knives for Whitehead & Hoag. The evidence is posted throughout this topic/thread. Are there more? Yes, I do believe that there are other cutlery companies involved.

BOKER U.S.A. - No Hard Evidence (So Far).
ROBESON - Involved.
MERIDEN - Slight Chance Of Involvement.
L.F. & C. - Involved.
VALLEY FORGE - No Hard Evidence (So Far).

Some great finds there Skip. Very nice additions indeed. Really like the High Art Prometheus-Gruppe.

This afternoon I added this, "THE W & H CO - USA - NEWARK NJ", single blade, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, fob/key ring pocket knife to my collection. This is my first fob/key ring pocket knife advertising this particular company. The main side says "OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH - MARS NATIONAL BANK - MARS PENNA." and the other side says "NEW BUILDING OPENING - 1900--1926 - 26 YEARS OF PROGRESS." It needed a little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.
