Added this 3 3/8" cigar jack this week, pretty much unused condition all steel construction with original blade finishes and really nice bone, little bit of age corrosion. I'm thinking 1940's or 50's.

Nice old Ulster! ::tu::
It appears the tang stamp has serif letters. I believe those were discontinued when Albert Baer purchased Ulster Knife Co In 1940.

Beautiful knife John, what fantastic condition! I think that knife dates a bit later, you've got Schrade bone on there, which would date it from 1947 at the earliest.

KJ, I've got a pruner marked with Ellenville. My understanding is that is a very early tang stamp, maybe pre 1900.

JohnR, Thank you for posting this info and the picture of your knife with "Ellenville" marking. I thought that it likely is a very early marking but with many years of collecting Ulster knives i had not seen it before.

I don't know what the etch would mean.

Went to a Flea market last Sunday and picked up a couple knives. The best is this lightly used serpentine jack that still has it's blade etch. The pen blade has seen a lot more use than the main. I'm thinking 1950's.

It may be referring to Daisy Cornwallis (Edward 7). She was commonly know as Princess Daisy or "Our Daisy".
She was very outspoken in matters between England, and Germany, and had that kind of Princess Di devotion. People loved her all over the world.

Interesting tang John.... Not one I have seen before.... Usually the word "Knife" on an Ulster would designate it as being made prior to the Baer acquisision, but would not be stamped "USA" as far as I know. Perhaps it is a transitional tang used by Baer shortly after the acquisition?
Nice blade etch.... I wonder what the "40" stands for?
'til later....

Joe, That's a nice pearl jack. I have the same knife in pearl as well as one with bone handles. Both are 3 1/16" closed. The pearl has brass liners with nickel silver bolsters, and the bone one has steel liners and bolsters. Barry

Those are really beautiful, Barry. Just fine knives with a nice etch. Congratulations.
Looking through a loupe I can see there was an etch on mine but can not read it.
It doesn't resemble yours.
Thanks again.

Joe, I have seen many pearl Ulsters etched ULSTER BRAND in block letters. Maybe this is what yours has? I have a couple. The etch is legible, but to faint to photograph.
