Saw this little (2½" closed) Made-in-Japan United Cutlery UC426 Wharncliffe half-whittler and just couldn't resist buying it even though it's a full inch shorter than my preferred size. I love the Scagel-style open pull, but the size renders this knife pretty much useless to me for all practical purposes. It's fine for the Wharncliffe collection, though. If it had a lanyard hole it would make a good keychain knife.

For size comparison: here it is next to a 3½" Case 6107W Wharncliffe Mini Trapper:

With so few offerings sometimes you have search for hidden Wharncliff blades and release them.

Can't decide if this Winchester Trademark Swell End Jack has a Wharncliffe or Sheepfoot blade. ::shrug:: What do you guys think?
It does have a bright & busy handle, of that I have no doubts.

Several years back, I took to calling that one a "sheepcliffe". "Sheepfoot" is probably the most accurate. Giving consideration to the taper of the blade, you can't rule out "lambfoot". ::shrug:: You decide.

Yep...according to that chart, mine looks more similar to a "real lamb foot" profile......in fact, now that I think about it, I used to have a Red/Yellow checkered knife just like this Blue/Silver Winchester but it had "Real Lamb Foot" etched on the blade.

Here's a little (3" closed) Zenith brand Wharncliffe jack made in Germany with shadow pattern French ivory (celluloid?) covers. No half stop; excellent snap. I'm guessing the date of manufacture to be approximately mid 1900s (1950-1970).

Ooh, I like that. Did it start life with the Ram's Horn covers or were they a custom touch?

This is how it came straight from the factory. Even though the post 2006 DFC stamped S&M knives are hit or miss on the fit and finish, the Daniels Family did manage to produce some cosmetically very highly attractive handles using a variety of materials. The color and texture of the ram horn on this Swayback Jack rival the beauty of some Mammoth Bark, IMO.

Enlarge these close ups to really appreciate the detail.

Mahalo, JP & jerryd...I appreciate the positive feedback (clearly, you have excellent taste!) :D ::handshake::

Not all my Wharnies are dressed up with fancy handles like ram horn...for example, this Spyderco Kiwi 4 that I got expressly for EDC, which is clad in basic black G-10 covers. Nevertheless, it has a certain ergonomic artistry and balance that makes it feel perfect in the hand. And, of course, that sleek VG-10 Wharncliffe blade ::drool:: ...should suffice for opening some mail or breaking down some cardboard boxes...you know, normal EDC stuff. ::nod::
