Standard Knife Co.
Re: Standard Knife Co.
That is a nice knife 58chevy348 ...
Thanks for that info and history Ken -That really explains the background of the knife..
The Platts family (father and sons) were no doubt a big part of the old cutlery industry - when FRJ (Joe) and I visited Northfield we saw the head stone in the cemetery for Charles (the patriarch) and his wife Sarah... Northfield is where it all started before the family moved on to Bradford etc...

Re: Standard Knife Co.
I just received this eBay purchase today. It is a tiny pen knife with severely cracked scales. The main blade has a slight swedge, and both blades are stamped “Standard”.
At $9 I was willing to take a chance, but want opinions from the experts here as to whether it is actually a 1920-era Standard.

Re: Standard Knife Co.
I would say no. It looks to be of German origin judging by the bolster pins.

Thank you for showing that knife, Reverend.
It is an interesting knife. I think it's another "Standard".
I would agree with Greg and also add that tang stamp has another image there along with the word Standard that seems unusual.
It's an important addition to the thread for comparison. Thanks again.

Re: Standard Knife Co.
The German cutlery industry adopted names that might influence buyers, to the extent, one hardware or Cutlery publication I read spoke of the deceit.
We saw it in the 70s with German Winchester’s, whoever’s idea it was.

Re: Standard Knife Co.
Thank you! I did not think of a German manufacture. The pins are a different metal than the bolsters. I suspect they are steel since they are so tiny.
And there is what looks like a crown above the name on the tang stamp.
I think it is a cute little knife, but a bit too dainty for my use. I ntend to re-handle it as I can. I am considering horn, as it would have a similar look and be fairly tough.
Now, I have GOT to buy a copy of a Goins book!

One more addition to this Standard Knife Co. thread. 3 3/8" closed.
No numbers on this knife but it sure favors it's slightly larger 6214 Case cousin.
Too much fun!
Thanks for looking.

Re: Standard Knife Co.
It looks like it's been a few years since the last post, I was researching my latest find and in doing so brought me here...
Thought I'd show you all what I picked up
Uncertain as to the manufacturer, amber colored translucent celluloid (glows under the light) it was hard to capture in pictures
Brass liners, both blade's still have good snap, some surface pitting and blade loss but overall still in decent shape
Thank you for letting me show it here, I welcome any other information someone might be able to provide on it

Re: Standard Knife Co.
According to Levine, Standard Knife Company was owned by Eliot and Dean Case in Little Valley NY, 1901-1903. The handles appear to be genuine tortoise
with a reflective underlay. They were wholesalers and the knife may be made by Cattaraugus ? It's a special piece, very nice shape and relatively valuable. IMHO. J.O'.

Thank you for the additional information J.O. I'm pleasantly surprised about the tortoise... had thought for sure it was celluloid but that's why I turn to everyone here for helpRidgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:06 pm According to Levine, Standard Knife Company was owned by Eliot and Dean Case in Little Valley NY, 1901-1903.
