If any of us could pick a favorite we wouldn't be collectors. I know I can't.
I measure my collection by the ton.

I hope this qualifies. There is a knife in there somewhere. If not I'll delete it.

I agree it is hard to find just one, but here is one I have and one that has been posted that I like the best.
The stag handle knife is a Wostenholm and the pearl handle knife is a J. Ward

MRB: It's hard to not like those two! Thanks for posting.
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

Since there has been a bunch of knives posted lately on the forum in the "Knives Made Before the Year 1960" thread and other great threads I thought it would be fun to resurrect this old thread and see if any of you have something to add.
A couple of my entries.
Catos big Miller Bros.
Lees beautiful old Wostenholm hunter

Two outstanding NICEST looking old knife candidates ! Thanks Joe for bringing this thread back to life!

Re: What Is The Nicest Looking Old Knife Posted On AAPK?
I never knew this thread existed - but very timely Joe given the old knives thread currently very active ..
Thanks very much Joe for the vote on that IXL Wostenholm Lockback Hunter with the old stag (actually need to get better photos of that knife and repost it)... and indeed that 2 blade Miller Bros Hunter is lovely ...
It is impossible for me to post one favorite - truly impossible - and so as a first that comes to mind off the bat - I am throwing this old Waterville Congress Whittler from Joe up here (and not because Joe is my good buddy ) - I already noted in the other thread that this knife is in my book just an awesome piece of old cutlery from a very respectable old CT company - this knife just exudes the epitome of old to me - the handles are like "butter", master blade is a sheepsfoot and nice secondaries, long pulls through the tang on actually both sides of the blades ,even the pattern itself is just rare to find, etc etc
Also I assume nobody here owns this knife but above Dimitri posted seven years ago a J Wards knife with Abraham Lincoln engraved on the shield and spectacular old Civil War etches on the blades (something I have only seen on Bowies and Dirks/Dagger) - That knife is absolutely superb !! .... I assume this is the J Wards from Turner falls MA though I see New York on the tang stamp ?
Sorry but I will have others as well

Re: What Is The Nicest Looking Old Knife Posted On AAPK?
Great entries all, I really love the ivory whittler!!
On that J. Ward knife it was sold at an Sotheby's auction in NYC on Jan 1989 for 90,750.00 It was made by J Ward of Bronxville NY. It as given to Lincoln as a gift. I am not sure when that was.
J. Ward knives are really hard to find. Attached is a J Ward lockback.

That's a pretty cool J. Ward knife Mike, and I like your Waterville Lee. Like others have written, it's a pretty tall task to pick just one knife but I have enjoyed going through this thread.
One of my favorites from my collection is this Henckels.

PD - Awesome looking Clark Bros - the etch is very cool and puts that one over the edge for sure ...
Mike (galvanic) - Great looking Wards and thanks for the info ... I had a J Wards from Turners Falls MA in my list but guess there was one in NY too - and that Abraham Lincoln gift knife sold for only $90.7K - I would have to sell the house for that one and one can imagine the conversation I would be having with my wife ....
Mike R - Beautiful Henckels and such an awesome big blade with beautiful gold etch work in a cool pattern - WOW!! ...
This thread should have a BYODB warning - "Bring Your Own Drool Bucket"

I had not seen this thread until Joe brought it back to life. I guess if I had to pick one knife that stuck in my mind, it is this one that peanut740 (Roger) posted a few years back.

I agree, Mel, that is a real beauty.
That's a fabulous hunter, Roger.

Hard to argue with that knife Mel! Hard to argue with a lot of knives shown really. I have one in my photo library that I’m not sure who it belongs to. It is a Northfield and it just is amazing to me.
Re: What Is The Nicest Looking Old Knife Posted On AAPK?
Impossible task to pick ONE nicest looking old knife. Every knife posted to date is a contender. So far, for me, I would have to say Joe's ivory congress whittler, or Roger's Forest King.

Re: What Is The Nicest Looking Old Knife Posted On AAPK?
This thread is like like the "Academy Awards of Knives" - but in fact there are no winners - as said it is impossible to pick one over another
Mel's post of Roger's Hunter reminded me about that beauty as well
and JamesC41001 - What a spectacular Northfield ... Another very elusive company mark to find and that knife is the nicest Northfield that I have ever seen ... The curves and edges of the blades along with the swell-center frame is like looking at a piece of art ... WOW!!!!!

Well said Lee. I think the gentlemen who made it was at the top of his game. I found a picture of an Ulster knife that is very similar but it has jigged bone covers.

Re: What Is The Nicest Looking Old Knife Posted On AAPK?
Somebody here has or had a schrade cut 08883 stockman, I do not recall who. This pattern is the nicest looking knife in the world to me.
Another very nice one that I’m quite fond of is a schrade cut 8566 jr cattle posted by miller bros. This is the only one that I have seen.
