Very recently I added this, new to me, all metal pocket knife to my collection. It is NOT in my previously posted group pictures. It's a VALLEY FORGE, 2 blade, 3 3/16" closed, pocket knife. Each blade has a tang stamp, one more legible than the other. The "VF" in a double circle stamp, is on the handle on each side of the pocket knife. I gave it a cleaning, took some pictures and here it is.

This pocket knife is the latest addition to my "All Metal Handle Knives" collection. It's a GEO. SCHRADE, single blade, wire handle/frame, hawkbill pruner pocket knife. Although the blade tip appears bent, it isn't. It needed a very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Today I add this knife to my "general" pocket knife collection. I honestly don't know why I bought it, but I like it and it was only $5. Not including the working man's punishment fee and shipping. It's an unbranded, single blade, fork, bottle opener/cap lifter and corkscrew, take apart "hobo" pocket knife. It separates into two sides. The blade and corkscrew on one side and the fork with bottle opener/cap lifter on the other side. It can be assembled so the blade and fork open from the same end, or so the blade and fork open from opposite ends. The fork being closed locks the sides in place. The only marking or stamp says "STAINLESS STEEL." It could possibly have been made in the U.S.A., but I believe the country of origin is Japan. I could be wrong. It did not need any cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Skip, i have done the same thing, many times: neat knife, wow, low price, o.k. i'll buy it. I have lots of many metal handle 'neat knives'. I especially like ones with scissors that work, i.e. cut my thick fingernails.

Back in the 1980's, I found a Mercator pocket knife under a house I was working on. That was my very first, all metal pocket knife that I owned. I made it one of my daily carry knives because, although it was beat to hell, it kept an edge. Some years later I decided to sell it and I did sell it, just prior to joining AAPK. After some time, I began to miss it. I recently decided to replace it and I did, with the Mercator pictured below. For what I paid, I have no complaints. It will be added to my daily carry rotation.

Interesting post, Skip. What is the size of this knife?

I knew nothing of Mercator, and did some quick research after your post. That looks like it would be a good, quality EDC for my purposes.I am putting a Mercator on my "watch list"....or maybe I should go crawl around under some houses ::smirk:: nah, too old for that crap!

It's 4 3/8" closed and 7 7/8" open.
Neither is including the bail.
There are quite a few of them on eBay for around $25.

Re: All Metal Handle Knives

Post by RobesonsRme.com »

I posted this in the Robeson Forum this past week, but not everybody visits there and it is an all metal handle knife.

I came across it on Ebay. It has a high starting bid and may well get it as it has interest to Breweriana collectors as well as knife collectors. I've seen that happen before with a Robeson made Budweiser knife.

I find this 3 1/2" knife interesting in that the back of the master spear is the lifter portion of the built-in cap-lifter.

Wonder who thought of that?

On another Robeson all metal knife, that function is performed by an extension of the back-spring upon which the corkscrew rides.

Knife dates from 1911 - 1921, I think.

I cannot recall seeing a knife handle with a cap lifter end. Rather rare i think.
Re: Mercator knife above: i have the same knife with a long lanyard and use it in the garden. Excellent knife, very sharp, edge holds very well and it is slim and light weight, very easy to carry.
