I have no idea who the makers are or their condition other than what can be gleaned from this one and only picture
Life's a gamble
P.S. guess which one I am most interested in this lot.
Hope you hit a home run Dimitri, I'll bet your really wondering about that 4 spring knife, looking like could be a great box lot.
I only have one MOP handled knife in the collection, its a fairly large 3 5/8" swell center Jaeger Brothers. The MOP really has a great glow to it.
Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
John - Great MOP knife - and if you only have one that’s a good one to own for sure ... guess it’s a Cattle Knife as it doesn’t have that stockman pattern shape...

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
JohnR... Yep... that's a fine lookin' cattle knife you have there...
woodwalker... I'm always partial to Ulsters & really like those double pulls on the main blade.
...so in the same vein... here is a 3 3/8" Dwight Devine Ulster (1926-41) cattle knife stamped 33487 on the pile side.
All blades have great snap & no wobble + still very sharp edges, so I have been carrying it around on the weekends...
mostly for show...
Also... a New York Knife Co. piece I picked up at the Lehigh Valley Knife fall show... Pattern №2772 − a 3⅛" Gentleman’s Pen Equal End including a file blade, embossed aluminum bolsters, Mother of Pearl handles. I found this one on page 937 of a reprint of the NYKC section of the 1908 Biddle Hardware Co., Phila. catalog. Unfortunately it has a broken tip on the pen blade, but other than that, it is in fine condition.

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
Hello!
I was hoping for some more info on this MOP / Abalone knife which has been in my family for 3+ generations.
From a post halfway through this thread I believe it is Balke and Schaaf.
There are no markings whatsoever on the knife, and it has one minor crack in the MOP.
Date info / collectability info most welcome.
Cheers

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
I picked up this nice little 3 inch MOP whittler over the weekend for a few bucks. The tang stamp reads "W. H. Morley & Sons Germany". Stamped on the back of each blade is a 4 leaf clover. Goins shows Morley made knives that were imported by Kastor & Bros. from 1913-1927. The MOP is intact and blades are in good shape. One of the two small whittlers is a double side file.

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
This is one that is absolutely beautiful......except for one small detail: the tang is worn on the rear of the master blade and it sits proud about halfway from where it is pictured.Would love to have it repaired but I think the cost would be too prohibitive.

Gorgeous old knife, knife7. Who's the maker on the tang stamp? Simmons?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

It is indeed a Simmons Hardware and I made an error:it is the pen blade and not the master blade that sits proud.1967redrider wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 2:46 am Gorgeous old knife, knife7. Who's the maker on the tang stamp? Simmons?

Re: Vintage Mother Of Pearl (MOP) Knives
I took the time to read this whole thread and it was well worth it. Outstanding knives folks!
Here are some of mine.
Two post-factory customs to start and then factory produced knives.
Schrade 498S fixed blade made for "Miles H." It's seen lots of use but is solid as a rock.
Schrade LB5 (earliest stamping) by J. Kidd of Wild Horse Customs.

Early 2-1/4" Schrade Cut Co not found in available catalogs. Same as 7606sha from 1926 supplement except that it has no liners of any type making it extra thin and fragile. I've never seen another like it.

E. Weck stamped 3-blade version with the milled nickel silver liners that are missing on the previous knife.

The Schrade 81016Sha is 1/4" longer than the previous knives at 2-1/2" closed. Found in 1938 supplement.
