Re: new york knife co
knifegnome, thank you for posting more pictures of the NYK cigar knife. You're right the stamp is unusual with Northfield included. The bone definitely looks like classic NYK bone and the shield also looks to NYK. Did NYK make knives for Northfield?knifegnome wrote:Ralph, here is the NYK cigar, look close at the tang stamps, double stamped, the Hammer Brand stamp and a Northfield UNXLD stamp.
It's a super nice knife.

Re: new york knife co
Knifegnome and Ralph, I think that Northfield blade was added to the knife some time later in its life. You can see that the bolsters were re-pinned and re-glazed and buffed. The center pin also looks like a replacement.
That's a fantastic collection knifegnome, some really rare ones in there!
ScoutKnives that's a fantastic example, first one I've seen other than in print!

Re: new york knife co
Roger, same set as mine except my handle with the spear blade was missing when I bought itpeanut740 wrote:MB, I must habe the deluxe set, it has 2 handles. One with a spear blade and the other with a punch.
A common occurrence with these sets, the spear blade frame could be carried in the pocket and was a more useful tool than the punch blade frame

Beautiful tool sets, you don't see those very often in that shape!!
Here's a little ephemera for you, an original NYK patent, dated 1931, for a pocket clip incorporated into the knife construction! Of course the clip was a bit smaller back in those days. I've never actually seen a NYK knife with this feature, but I'm sure there's at least one out there:

Yes, same year. Crazy move trying to auction a year's worth of production. Probably done out of desperation.

Re: new york knife co
Just came across this post. Just out of curiosity are they stamped Hammer Brand New York Knife Co. or just Hammer Brand? The reason I ask is the attachment hooks for the tools look like the later style ones used when Imperial took over the Hammer Brand stamp.peanut740 wrote:MB, I must have the deluxe set, it has 2 handles. One with a spear blade and the other with a punch.
I know a lot of the German tool kits will have two handles in them and sometimes they will not have any permanent blades in them and the tools can be inserted two ways:parallel and perpendicular to the handle(mostly for corkscrews and awls).
