Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

here is a easy way to replace the MOP.
i used 2 pack epoxy resin. to replace the missing mop on this whittler.(not a catt :( )
MOP is easy to work into shape. once fixed in place. i use a dremel rotary tool with a fine grit. grinding wheel.
then a polishing buffer wheel.

I hope I'm not bringing an old post up. But I live 25 miles from Little Valley, NY. I just bought this old Cattaraugus two blade Jack from an old neighbor man. I just love this knife, and I'm tempted to make this my EDC.

Beautiful knife. I love the old Catts! So many beautiful knives. So much rich history. We need a Cattaraugus Collectors subforum! ::tu::

I'm tempted to take my metal detector over to the old plant. Probably been worked a lot, but You just never know. Sometimes they find a pop can and don't recheck the spot. If I even found an old shield I'd be thrilled.

Wow knifegnome that Catt fixed blade is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Here is a pic of the Catts I have. I’m looking for replacement blades for the gunstock jack. Pattern number is 22429 and is 3 3/4” closed. If anyone has a better example of a gunstock jack please post pics so we know what the blade profiles are supposed to look like. Thanks Steve B.

Did Cattaraugus import knives from Germany?

I asked because this one just looks Germanic to me.

That "o" in "Co" was one of the "looks" to which I was referring.

It's not a for sure dead giveaway, but it is "indicative", as you said.

That's a wonderful collection of early Catt tang stamps!!!
The one you just picked up is an amazing find, I love it!

Here's an old Catt Hawkbill that is marked with an early stamp.

Picked up this Cattaraugus Radio Electricians knife, unused, I'm thinking it's early as the lock has a July 3rd 1906 Pat date. Was still in storage grease.

That's what I'm thinking Lee, thank you all for the comments.

I have seen others of this pattern with a shield and without the patent date so with the patent date I'm thinking around WW1.
