Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Yes Mark is a great guy and it is a treasure for us to have. Thanks again Mark!! We think that JBF had knives without the LV marking in Germany but are not completely sure. We wish we could find some paperwork to prove it. They are the earliest Catt's except for the Galvanic1882 marked knives but they are close.
I have about 5 now can't remember to be sure and Derek has I think 3-4.

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
I don't seem to have much luck finding good Catt"s, I think I have 3 in my collection. Did manage to add a nice one this week.
It's pattern #22359, a large 3 3/4 jack, heavy substantial feel to it, looks to have had little use, perfect bone, full blades. Appears to have sat for quite awhile, had to clean some rust and the pile side bone is lighter like it faded from sun exposure. Searching around I do not see this pattern show up all that often.

That's a great knife!!!
Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Thanks Mike, Chris, appreciate it. I was really impressed with this knife when I pulled it out of the box, love big jacks.
Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Nice big ol' jack John ... I've seen differences in mark vs pile side bone but yours is pretty dramatic - but I think it is pretty cool! ...

Thanks Lee, I had gone thru this entire thread when I received this knife looking for other examples of this pattern number and I noticed several other knives posted that had lighter pile side bone, wonder if that is something Cattaraugus did intentionally or just how the bone aged if the knife sat on one side for decades.
Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Beautiful old knife you have, John. I think the lighter coloring is because of exposure.
Here's a nice little pen knife. 3 inches closed.

Great Catt's, John and Joe! Like them both a lot, but that large jack is especially fine!

Some really nice Catts guys. Mark, that's a great example of the worm groove bone Cattaraugus used on so many of their knives!
I've often wodered why AAPK doesn't have a sub-forum dedicated to Cattaraugus. IMHO that's a gross oversight. How about it - anyone else agree?

I have always wondered about that also seeing as Cattaraugus is such a collected brand.

I submitted a request to the "Forum Administrators" for a Cattaraugus Cutlery brand-specific forum. Not sure how this is done - I'm thinking it's something Bryan will have to execute. Will let y'all know how it proceeds.

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
I picked this Catt up on the auction site and I'm looking for some help on it. It has a pattern stamp I've not seen before, it has a letter "B" at the start instead of the typical 5 numbers. I don't have my Cattaraugus book with me here at work and it's driving me crazy wondering if this is an original knife! It sure looks original but as I said I've never seen this pattern stamp before........any help??
Thanks,
Dave
Thanks,

Dave, Price and Zalesky say B2109 is a barehead trapper jack. Ritchie and Stewart's fifth edition says B2109 is a copperhead jack? No photo in the Ritchie and Stewart Cattaraugus catalog reprint.
