Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
I picked this Catt up on the auction site and I'm looking for some help on it. It has a pattern stamp I've not seen before, it has a letter "B" at the start instead of the typical 5 numbers. I don't have my Cattaraugus book with me here at work and it's driving me crazy wondering if this is an original knife! It sure looks original but as I said I've never seen this pattern stamp before........any help??
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, Price and Zalesky say B2109 is a barehead trapper jack. Ritchie and Stewart's fifth edition says B2109 is a copperhead jack? No photo in the Ritchie and Stewart Cattaraugus catalog reprint.

Too late now but just for future reference - when in such a situation do not despair. In many cases the help you need is right here on AAPK, up there ^^ in the "Research" section. For example, here's the link to the Catt numbering page. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/co ... ng-system/knowtracks wrote: I don't have my Cattaraugus book with me here at work and it's driving me crazy wondering if this is an original knife! Of course I looked there 1st before posting here for help! Plus some other places on the internet. I've been around here long enough to know where the research information is! But Thank You for your input Ken! I can use all the help I can get...some days!Mumbleypeg wrote:Too late now but just for future reference - when in such a situation do not despair. Hi guys,
Maybe one of you Cattaraugus folks can help me identify this little knife I picked up this weekend at an estate sale. I can’t find anything on the numbers here on AAPK in the research section and I don’t think I have a book on Cattaraugus.
For a tiny little 2-3/8” knife it has a lot of snap to it! And those little blades are sharp too!
I am not a huge fan of MOP but this appears to be gold lip MOP, and I don’t see a crack on it anywhere. It’s a pretty nice knife to come out of an old farmhouse estate.
Of course the pictures don't come close to doing it justice, typical of most MOP.
I appreciate anything you can tell me about it, including an approximate value.
Thank you,
Dale

Hi Dale, the O sometimes stands for Opal Pearl which it might be.
Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Good morning Dale,
As Mark said, it is Opal Pearl. I have one of these myself that I got from Jim Sargent several years ago. I would call mine near mint and I believe I gave him $125.00 for it at the time. I hope this helps.

Thank you Mike and Ricky, I really do appreciate the information.
Does anyone have an approximate time that this knife might have been made?
Would it be pre-World War II or postwar?
Thanks again!

I have been told from a couple different knife know-it-alls( in a good way)that Cattaraugus didn't make any pocket knives after WWII.

Is that normal for the tang stamp to be sideways?

Some of the smaller knives are hard to get all of the numbers on same line, I have some the same way. Nice knife.
