A CHALLENGE for you.
Re: A CHALLENGE for you.
Bill, Dan, Joe, Roger, thank you guys Challenge knives are one of my favorite brands to collect, they seem to be one of the high quality vintage companies.

Yeah, as I was prying off the lid I was hoping it was full of pieces of eight. Instead, it was only some crappy 100+ year old folding knives.
Thanks, Lee!

Re: A CHALLENGE for you.
Mike (Scoutknives) posted a couple of these earlier in this thread. Here’s one I have. Still has a faint etch on the master blade.

Very nice Ken ... Cool to see a Boys Scout knife with the embossed handles ... I have yet to add a Scouts knife though have most other patterns - been patiently waiting for the right one to trip my trigger for a few years now... though I will say the Challenge "classical" boys knives are interesting as I understand there was some legal issues with them using the official Boy Scout emblem if I remember correctly - and I may not ...

Re: A CHALLENGE for you.
Knives stamped both Challenge and Case Bradford used these same embossing dies. The blades are different and the pile side scene on the Challenge version is oriented “upside down” relative to the Case (or visa versa depending on how you perceive it). I’ve seen speculation that one or both companies attempted to get official BSA endorsement for the pattern (and failed), and that one or the other of the two companies made them all. And that George Schrade had dealings with both companies around that timeframe so he may have been involved. Nobody seems to know for sure but regardless whatever happened, they’re interesting knives.LongBlade wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 3:32 pm Very nice Ken ... Re: A CHALLENGE for you.
Yeah Ken ,
I kinda have an obsession for them
The challenge version came in three different handle materials that I have found , brass , copper and silver .
The case version comes with either brass liners or nickel silver liners , the brass is the most common , blades are slightly different between them as well .

Re: A CHALLENGE for you.
Here are a couple that I just picked up from Roger (peanut740). Aside from the fact that they are both Challenge, they share the same etch. They are marked "Schell's Quality Seeds, Harrisburg, Pa". These 2 patterns would be a good fit for a seed company.
Has anyone else out there run across this etch in any other brands or patterns?
