Try rubbing your finger back and forth briskly over the handle material til it generates some heat then smell it, if it has a chemical odor it is comp. Might be harder now that you soaked it in oil but worth a try.

I assume there was a can opener blade, in your third picture down the usual cutout where the nub?? for opening the can opener blade is visible, with the nub (piece of metal) still there? If there is or was a can opener there, Sellens lists it as a K6353, generally made between 1921 and 1934. Also says the saber spear narrows the date range to between 1921 to 1926 and also lists it with fiber handles from 1921 through to 1923.

Knife is listed in the catalogs as 3 1/2", with the bolsters and bail listed as nickel silver. Handles look a little shrunk, but generally in pretty good condition. As I recall you have come up with a couple or more interesting old Keen Kutters in the last while.

Recently acquired this old green bone Clauss. Only Clauss I've seen in this pattern, stamped 27 on pile side tang. Looks like a Case 6445R, maybe Tested era?

That looks like a nice one Paul. ::tu:: ::tu:: Can't tell for sure from the picture but it looks like the blade etch is gone? None of my RS3333 are that clean.

Thanks Ken. You can barely see the remains of an etch, but not enough to to tell what it said. One reason I like this one so well is the threaded bolsters, most of the rs3333's I see don't have that, maybe it was only on older ones? Tang stamp is 1924-33.

A couple of Schrade Cut Co's, common Master blade, punch and flat bail. Distinctively different can opener and right and left handed screw drivers.

Here is a 4 blade Utility, just shy of 3 3/4" with a Hammer Brand shield and Hammer Brand + logo on master blade, but no "New York Knife Co." To me it looks never used, even the well (inside surfaces of liners & springs) looks clean like new, not clean as in cleaned up.
Is it a New York Knife Co knife ? And has it been expertly buffed which removed NYKCo stamp & possibly an etch ?
It really is a fine knife with perfect walk & talk and of course not even a hint of any blade play in these old masterfully made knives.

Thanks again Dimitry.
Is the spiral punch the only style of punch that NYKCo used ?
And did the NYKCo Official Boy Scout knife only come with a clip master blade ? or some years was it a spearpoint ?
o.k. now i will stop asking questions about this.

Thanks Tom. I see that for some years they state "clip" but others years no mention of master blade profile, so is it safe to assume that spearpoint master was used for those years ?

No, they used the same punch style as is on your knife. I have a lot with the spear blades more than with a clip.

Never stop asking questions, this is how you learn ::tu::
